St. Isaac’s Cathedral is an outstanding monument of Russian art and architecture of the XIX century. It was created by the French architect Auguste Montferrand. The Golden dome of St. Isaac’s Cathedral can be seen from any part of the city, its height is 101.5 m.
Spas-on-Blood is the largest mosaic ensemble in Europe. Inside the Cathedral, part of the pavement was preserved behind the fence, where red carnations always lie in memory of Tsar Alexander II, who was killed on this spot by a revolutionary in 1881.
